With a new year starting, our eyes naturally turn to what 2016 has in store for us. Or should that be what we have in store for 2016?
Einstein famously said that “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results”. So what do you plan to do differently in 2016?
Over this 2 part blog, my aim is to help you set yourself up for increased success and fulfilment in 2016. In part 2, we’ll be looking at how you develop and keep a winning mindset, to ensure you deliver against your plans. But here, our focus is on your foundation piece. Your plans for the year ahead.
When was the last time your revisited your long term plans for yourself and your business? I run my business on a 3 year vision and I help my clients to do the same. Where would you like to be in 3 years? Break this down into each key part of your business and life and create a picture of where you intend to be. Then zoom that back to two years’ time and finally one year. This will define what you intend to achieve in 2016. As you drill down, become more realistic and less idealistic. Bill Gates once said that we under estimate what we can achieve in the longer term and overestimate what we can achieve in the short term. Therefore set an aspirational long term vision, but then a more a realistic target for 2016.
One of the most important aspects of my planning is a 90 day plan. Get yourself a clear detailed plan for the first 3 months of the year, to set yourself off with a push in the right direction.
And how can you make sure you keep as tight as possible to the 90 day plan? Developing habits that support this and daily planning to keep yourself on track. Track your goals and measure your performance continually and build in GBT into your diary – This is Goal Based Time!
If you have a business with people, engage everyone when creating the vision and more detailed plans, and keep them engaged and motivated throughout the year.
I hope you find this blog useful and that you set aside time for yourself to plan for success in 2016.
If you need help and inspiration to do this, why not join us at our PI Leadership Discovery Workshop on January 11th. It would be a pleasure to start the year the right way with you.
