As a leadership coach and psychologist I spend much of my time working with my clients on both their mindset to keep them positive and happy and also business strategies to increase the success of their businesses.
It is also constant work to keep myself positive and performing well too!
We regularly run a free event called “12 ways to become happier and more successful in business”
Here, if you have not been able to join us, are the 12 ways for you….
- Firstly you need to have a good idea of what happiness means to you. This should give you a clear idea of what you should be doing more of and less of. You also need to set yourself up to be happier as research shows that this can impact significantly on results (for example GPs diagnosing 3 times faster and sales people selling 50%+ more)
- Develop a positive mindset as your foundation. You need to consistently work on approaches that will keep you positive, handle the negative self-talk and build empowering beliefs. Our tendency can be to lapse into negative thinking, so this need conscious effort. Wherever you are on the “effect” side of the equation, work on small steps to take yourself to “cause”.
- Celebrate success. So often the good stuff passes us by, so make a point of celebrating all the good things that happen. Recognising the positive on a daily basis (I journal 5+ positive things each day) also trains your brain to focus more on the positive (I will happily tell you all about the Tetris Effect if you give me a call!)
- Connection is everything. I wrote a recent blog on the importance of your social network (see here). The problem is that we often neglect this when the going gets tough or stressful, but people are so important to our happiness and development. Make sure you stay connected and in touch.
- Act As If. There has been much research done on how our physiology can impact on our psychology, so if you want be to be happy and confident it starts by acting in that way.
- Know your big “Why”. I talk to my 121 clients and Solopreneur Club client about this frequently. Why does your business exist? What difference will it make to others? Getting to the heart of this will keep you motivated and positive.
- Have a clear strategic direction. If you don’t know where you are going you will end up somewhere else. Constantly focus and adapt your long term vision to give you a clear point B from your point A. Then plan on a 90 day basis to keep on track.
- Stand out from the crowd. Do some digging to find out how you are different or how you could do things differently to others. How can you differentiate yourself in the marketplace?
- To sell is human. It often makes me smile when I ask solo business owners if they are sales people and they say no. Well who is in the business then? We need to develop a good attitude to sales and improve our sales. We are there to serve and help people and relating this to our big “Why” is key to this.
- Make every minute of every day count. Time management is about control. If you don’t start each 90 days with a clear plan, don’t start each week with a plan or most importantly you don’t start each day with your priorities and tasks set out, you will become less effective and more stressed. So planning and control is vital.
- Develop your customer relationships. What do your customers think of you? What are their plans and how can you serve them further? Who do they know that they could refer you to? Would they write you a glowing testimonials? If you are not asking these questions, you are not developing your relationships.
- Know your measures. If you don’t know your financial, sales, marketing and operational performance in terms of data and measures it is hard to know how the business is doing and if changes make a difference. Start tracking and reporting and get a clear view of your business performance.
If you would like to discuss how these relate to you and your business, I am happy to have a 30 minute call to help you. Just drop me a line or give me a call on 07912 143040.
HI Tony, we met a few times at Toby Networking. I would like to join you on a free course if possible- do you have any dates/venues coming up? As you know I am in and out of the country with my Moroccan business? Thanks Di
